Disney Movies

Try to find one person who has been born in the last 20 years that went through their whole childhood without seeing one Disney movie. If and when you find that person, they must have been born under a rock. Walt Disney company started making short series films back in 1923 and has continued to make films to this day. With advancements in technology, Disney continues to make money on films they made years ago by offering them on Blue ray for purchase today. This is why I believe these movies will never fad out and will always be relevant in cycles. These movies will sell in cycles with the generations of kids who grow up watching them. For example, my brother was born in 1982. Throughout his childhood he was introduced to multiple Disney movies. He is now a father of my 3 year old nephew Dominic. My brother has bought every Disney movie he watched and liked when he was younger plus a few newer ones for Dominic. Kids will watch what you put on and they see animated movies in good picture quality and have no idea they were made years before their time. That's why these movies will not fade away. Dominic will grow up and possibly do the same when he has kids. This is where the cycle comes in. These movies have a nostalgic feel to them which makes people spend a lot of money on them even though they are considerably old movies. Disney has the formula right, they get repeat customers and are profitable for years on some films most would consider classics. Disney movies have become a part of our culture for kids growing up everywhere. They will always be around and are not going anywhere anytime soon.

Western Films: Shanghai Noon

It's funny how some movies can bring us back to a specific point in time. I particularly remember the first two times I saw the movie Shanghai Noon. The very first time I was in the 6th grade attending a birthday party at my friend Chris's house. A large group of friends were there. We went to play laser tag and then everyone came back to Chris's house to stay the night playing video games and watching movies. The first movie we watched was a scary movie called Urban Legend. Since we didn't want to go to bed with scary thoughts in our heads, we strategically watched the comedy western movie second. It was very funny and entertaining from the beginning to end. After watching Shanghai Noon it was hard to remember much from Urban Legend. We all went to sleep with smiles on our faces. The first thing I thought as I was watching the movie was how much my grandpa would like this movie. When I was younger I would stay at my grandparents house quite a bit. My grandpa would pick the TV shows and movies we would watch and his two favorite types of movies were western films and martial arts films. Shanghai Noon is the perfect mix of both. The second time I saw the movie is the time I think of most every time I see it on TV today. I asked my mom if I could rent the movie because I knew I was going to spend the afternoon with my grandpa. She knows her dad well and thought he would like the movie I suggested so she was cool with it. I had lunch at my grandparents and my grandpa and I watched the movie. He enjoyed it so much that he eventually bought it for his own collection. Every time I see a movie on TV that I once watched with my grandpa it brings me back to that time in my life and I can remember in detail that day and the time we spent together. Because of that, when I see a movie we watched it brings a smile to my face and I love that it does. If you want to check out a fun family western comedy movie, Shanghai Noon is the film for you.

Exodus: Gods and Kings Review

If you like epic adventure movies (Troy, Gladiator, Alexander) this one will catch your fancy. For some reason there seems to be a trend in new movies being ridiculously long and this movie falls into that category. However, it is usually expected when depicting an epic adventure movie. The original Ten Commandments movie that came out in 1956 was also exceptionally long. Exodus: Gods and Kings was 15 mins longer. So if you do not enjoy long movies, this is not for you. The story is pretty straight forward and those who know their religion will know what to expect in what order. The one main difference I noticed is how the modern version of this tale has much more violence and "Hollywood" in the film. What I mean by this is that the original version was very traditional and had a large religious aspect to the film. Some words were quoted straight out of the bible. Exodus, did not have as much of a religious feel to it. The special effects were much better than the original but the acting overall was nowhere near the original's level. Although Christian Bale did a good job playing the role of Moses in my opinion, he was no Charlton Heston. The Ten Commandments, although much older, is still the superior movie by far. Exodus was very entertaining from start to finish and was not nearly as slow as the Ten Commandments. There are things I like and don't like from both movies. Both movies are worth checking out if you are not familiar with ether of them. I'm not sure I would deem this a Vera-Good Movie but, it is an okay movie and for the price to rent at Redbox, It's worth a rent.

Ready, Set, Action!

Just about every time I go to pick up cat food, groceries, or supplies from Wal-Mart I pick up a red box movie. Red box is great because they have a selection of relatively new movies and they cost less than 2 dollars to rent per night. Because you can return them at any time of the day they are very tempting to me. The bright red box draws me in. I look in advance to see what is at that particular location each time before I go shopping at Wal-Mart because I know that red box is located there. Anyways, there is a movie that just came in that has my interest. Exodus: Gods And KingsChristan Bale stars as Moses in this epic story. I seen the original Ten Commandments movie with my Dad years ago so it will be interesting to see what a modern version of this will look like. I'm going to pick this up next time I go to the store. I will give some insight on it and let you know if I deem it a Vera-good movie or not. Regardless of my opinion you should check it out for yourselves. I won't ever give anything away in my reviews so don't worry. Please bear with me I'm new to blogging but hopefully you all enjoy.

Vera-Good Movies

Throughout my life I have seen thousands of movies. I'm not sure what the average number of movies a regular person sees in a year is, but, I have to imagine my number is at least double that. I have always had a passion for movies for as long as I can remember. It started when I was young and has continued to grow to present time. Because of this, I currently own over 350 plus movies, have access to 9,796 on Netflix, 1,400 on HBO Go, and the thousands that are on my cable provider. Not only that, I'll be 26 next month and throughout my life I have seen tons of movies at theatres, at the houses of family and friends, or in the comfort of my own home. I'm no expert on movies but I figured I would give my take on movies I have seen and will see since I watch them so often. Movies are not for everyone. Some people can't make it through them without falling asleep, some just simply do not have the patience or interest. To me movies have a nostalgic feel to them and can bring up good memories from the past. New movies are exciting as well and I RedBox quite a bit of those if I don't see them in theatre first. So, if anything else, hope you enjoy the stories, reviews, recommendations, and insight given here.
